Beaches reachable by train in Liguria

The Ligurian coastal railway is one of the most scenic in Italy. From Genoa to Ventimiglia it runs a few metres from the sea. These beaches have a station within 15 minutes' walk of the shore.

How we select

The Genoa-Ventimiglia railway is the most underrated secret of the Riviera. It runs along the coast with trains every 30 minutes in summer, and allows you to reach almost all Ponente beaches without a car. To the east the situation is different: the line runs inland towards La Spezia, but stations like Corniglia and Vernazza are still 10 minutes from the water. Arriving by train also means not having to find parking in August, a real problem acknowledged in the profiles for Varigotti, Baia dei Saraceni and Punta Crena. Interrail passes are valid on this route.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book the train?

No, Trenitalia regional trains do not require booking. A standard distance ticket or regional day pass is sufficient. In July and August trains to the Cinque Terre fill up: leave early in the morning.

Which station is closest to Baia dei Saraceni?

Finale Ligure station or Varigotti (request stop). From Finale Ligure it is about a 30-minute walk along the coast or a local bus. Check timetables on the Trenitalia website.

Can I bring my bike on the train?

Yes, bikes are allowed on Trenitalia regional trains (with a paid bike ticket) but limited to available space on the train. In high season it is worth checking in advance.
